Evening Prayer

Through Evening Prayer, we seek to be the church to each other as we anchor ourselves to our faith mid-week.
For those who want to connect in real-time mid-week worship from the comfort of their own homes, Evening Prayer is the answer. Currently twelve people from around New York State log on at 6PM and, using a bulletin emailed to them in advance, engage in a conversational format that includes personal prayer petitions, sharing personal experiences, scripture, additional readings and occasional music. Everyone who attends agrees that this hour on Thursday nights has become a touchstone for them — both for the spiritual component and for the camaraderie and loving support offered by other group members. Some participants who had never met before have found these relationships to be so important to them that they have driven a couple hundred miles to meet in real time.

Please get in touch with the South Presbyterian office in order to secure the link for this online service. We will look forward to welcoming you.

Evening Prayer gathered from 6-7 p.m. on Zoom each Thursday evening with Pastor Deb Swift. Guided by the emailed prayer service prepared by Pastor Deb, seven to nine participants engaged interactively in a weekly check-in focused on a leading question, opening prayer, selected Scripture and reflection questions, sharing of joys and concerns to be lifted up in prayer, a communal reciting of The Lord’s Prayer and a benediction. The benediction sometimes included a musical offering screen shared on YouTube.

The weekly experience provided a forum for sharing our individual stories
as well as reflecting our responses to our local, national and global concerns as we offered support to one another along our faith journeys.

We each acknowledge the importance of coming together in Evening Prayer as we look forward with prayer-filled hope.

One of the nice things about an online worship group is its flexibility in working around family vacations and other travel. The group continues to meet weekly with people joining in wherever they are. Through our prayer time, scripture, discussion and meaningful reflection, we find an anchor for our faith mid-week and have created a new worshiping community in the midst of it all. Come and join us. Just contact the office for the ZOOM link using the CONTACT US tab above.

It’s amazing how prayer brings people together.
This summer, a man joined us who knew nothing about us but found us online. And THEN … he and his family were out driving around on a Sunday afternoon and drove the hour-and-10-minutes to join us in worshiping at Fellowship of Faith.
Such is the power of the Holy Spirit.

Thursday Evening Prayer: Reading, sharing, praying, challenging while supporting each other, this Act of Faith started during the pandemic as a means of praying together in real time (unlike the YouTube services which are videotape and non-interactive). Now, however, it has become a way for us to care for each other through the ups-and-downs of life. Often theme-related, music is occasionally woven into the fabric of this service which calls each of us to be our best selves as People of the Way.

We support each other in all of our life challenges and celebrations.

If you would like to check us out in person, use the CONTACT tab above. We will send you the ZOOM link.

Current membership includes Methodist, American Baptist, Lutheran, unaffiliated, Presbyterian, both local and non-local individuals. There’s always room for more!
