Using the Common Lectionary readings, we dive deeply into our faith by challenging ourselves to apply the Biblical teachings in our current context. |
WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW |
04/22/24 There’s nothing formal about this. Our dozen members meet most Mondays and look at the Common Lectionary readings for two weeks in the future. After a period of check-ins and sharing, our discussions always revolve around how we can apply these readings to our lives and current events. When traveling on vacation, members often “zoom-in” because of the connections we make with each other through sharing personal experiences — both past and present. New members are always welcome. We each bring our own translations of scripture and any commentary information we have at hand. The readings are received in advance of the class for those who want to “read ahead.” Laughter is mixed with scholarship and a lot of learning. We hope you’ll join us. 04/04/23 Cuppa the Bible, an Act of Faith of South Presbyterian Church, met weekly on Monday mornings at 10:30 – noon, to explore God’s Word. Each week began with a time of check-in fellowship followed by discussion led by Pastor Deb. The Scripture texts were read to preview upcoming week’s Lectionary emailed to participants by Pastor Deb prior to our meeting time. This past year’s gatherings were held on Zoom. Typically nine women participated in challenging and lively discussion as historical context was explored and applications to today’s faith journeys were shared. Discerning a common thread or theme amongst the four lectionary readings was pursued each week. Cuppa the Bible provided new perspectives to our understanding of God’s Word for us today through the Spirit’s guidance. 08/29/22 We’re BAAAACK … or we will be on the Monday after Labor Day (9/12/22) studying the Common Lectionary readings. It will be good to reconnect after our summer separation. If you have never been a part of this group, September is a great time to join! Use the CONTACT tab above and we’ll send you the ZOOM link. Following a round-robin check-in to share life events, we address each of four Bible passages in terms of when it was written, to whom was it written, by whom was it written, and for what purpose was it written. Members use different translations and other Bible resource books that they bring to the discussion, and invariably, we all work to discern what those passages are saying to us for our own faith journeys in 2022. Two weeks later, we learn how the Spirit has led the pastor to interpret these readings as she uses them for the basis of her sermon. |
