Last month, our session voted to officially register South as part of our denomination’s Matthew 25 ministry. This nationwide initiative focuses on actively engaging our faith in the world with the goals of building congregational vitality, dismantling structural racism and eradicating systemic poverty. South has a longstanding commitment to meeting people where they are and engaging in ministry that arises organically from the needs and desires of each community where we gather. The Matthew 25 initiative connects us to other congregations who also commit to doing the work of feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and welcoming the stranger. South’s ongoing ministries that follow the Matthew 25 model include several of our Acts of Faith: Back2Center, SoutHeart, SonRay, Matthew 25 at St. Joe’s, New Life on Monroe, Praying Hearts and Micah Circle. If you would like to become more involved in the Matthew 25 initiative, please contact Pastor Laura.
